KOCHI: Cultivation, with its many challenges is becoming unattractive to pursue. The future of food security lies in active promotion of agriculture and improvements at the farm level – including a conscious collaboration with Research Houses – because scientific expertise never does reach the farm, said Sri Lankan Minister for Minor Export Crops, Reginald Cooray.
He was speaking at a dinner hosted by the World Spice Organisation, here on Friday. The Indian Spice Industry was represented by Spices Board - Dr. Jayathilak IAS, Chairman and other delegates; World Spice Organisation – Mr. Philip Kuruvilla, Chairman and executive members and All India Spices Exporters Forum – Mr. Geemon Korah, Chairman.
Various topics of consequence were discussed over dinner – Working together to combat common problems – labor shortage, new generations shying away from agriculture, etc - Call for learning from Indian know-who and investment in processing spices, especially pepper and cinnamon - Exchange program for scientists - Extension of WSO’s activities to Sri Lanka.
