WSO continues its efforts at Food Safety at the Farm level

 

INDIA: Ensuring continued focus on the prevention of Aflatoxin, in Nutmeg has been assigned top priority at the Spices Board. WSO Chairperson presided over a meeting (26.08.2011) that brought together Nutmeg farmers, exporters, scientists and Government Officials, enabling exchange of information and an unified direction of thought.


The Spices Board, Govt. of India and World Spice Organisation together in close association with the Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kerala Agricultural University, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and the Indian Cardamom Research Institute has launched country-wide initiatives to curb the Aflatoxin Menace.

A series of steps are being mooted in the 12th year plan to support the program – aiming at 360o improvements – Harvest Operations, Packaging, Processing and Export/Transit - Establishing scientific procedures for the cultivation and harvest of Nutmeg, and building awareness and equipping the farmers to adopt superior techniques effectively.
